For guests arriving into Rome (FCO) you will have several options for transportation to Todi. Here are a few of the easiest options.
Rental Cars: This will be the easiest option for most people. If you are not familiar with manual transmissions please be sure you are booking an automatic car. If you are familiar with manual transmissions be aware there is a lot of uphill driving. We would also suggest renting the smallest car that will suit the needs of your trip because roads in Italy are fairly narrow once you get into the middle of older cities. Driving in Italy is easy and the signs are all very self explanatory. We strongly suggest reviewing ZTL zones in Italy especially if you are going to be driving in Rome. Tolls also accept all major credit cards, just look for the blue credit card signs that say “Carta”.
Uber/Car Service: For those who are apprehensive about driving in Italy, you have the option to Uber or hire a car service. These range in price and we encourage shopping around. If you want to Uber the only option is UberBlack which can be more expensive but are always luxury cars driven by professionals. Ubers can be picked up right outside the airport. If you choose to hire a car service they will be waiting for you with a sign once you leave the customs area.
Train: Trenitalia is the national train company in Italy. Due to its location, trains from Rome to Todi will require a short bus ride from Terni which is the last stop to access the city from. You also have the option to taxi from Terni and we would suggest having cash on hand. The route to Todi from the airport will begin with the Leonardo Express which you take at the airport to Roma Termini (Central Rome). From there you will take the Regionale Veloce terminating in Terni. From Terni you will take the bus to Todi Ponte Rio. Overall expect this trip to take 4-5 hours.
